Kolarin kunnan kotiseutumuseon kokoelmia esitellään yleisölle Sieppijärven kylän pohjoisosassa sijaitsevalla Rovan tilalla. Tilalla on kaikkiaan seitsemän historiallista puurakennusta sekä vuonna 2005 avattu muinaispolku. Museo on perustettu vuoden 1980 tienoissa, jolloin nykyinen päärakennus siirrettiin paikalle. Museo avattiin ensimmäisen kerran vuonna 1986, mutta jouduttiin sulkemaan kosteusremontin vuoksi vuosiksi 1994-99. Näyttely on uusittu kokonaan vuoteen 2003 mennessä.

Päärakennus, Pääkkölä eli Pääkön pirtti, valmistui vuoden 1889 paikkeilla Sieppijärven kylän keskelle. Pääkkölä toimi asuin- ja kestikievarikäyttössä, säilyen palamattomana Lapin Sodasta (1944-45). Kunta osti rakennuksen vuonna 1970 aluksi koulukäyttöön. Näyttelyssä esitellään kahden kolarilaisen kotitalouden esineistöä viime sotia edeltävältä kaudelta. Päärakennuksen koillispuolella sijaitseva pieni Joen tupa on lahjoitettu Muonionjokivarresta, Saarenputaan Juurakkovaarasta. Tämä on museoalueen vanhin rakennus perimätiedon ja kurkihirren alta löytyneen, vuonna 1771 lyödyn Tanskan shillingin perusteella. Rakennuksen näyttelykunnostus on keskeneräinen, mutta kamaria käytetään museon toimistona. Ulkorakennuksissa, erityisesti kesänavetassa ja kahdessa ladossa, on esillä kookkaita vanhanajan maataloustyövälineitä.

The Municipal museum of Kolari

The exhibition of the outdoor museum shows a typical pre-war home of two families in the main
building. The whole collection consists of 1581 articles. The other buildings in the area – barns, the
cattle shelter and warehouses contain mostly farm machinery, eg. sleighs for several purposes.
The ancient trail of 300 metres starts behind the cattle shelter in the southeastern corner of the
museum yard. There are historical remnants of a previous bakery-kiln, stone cairns and hearths and two structures for pine tar burning.

The museum can be found in the village of Sieppijärvi, about 24 kilometres to the SSE from the
centre of Kolari, 500 metres to the E from the highway 21, in the end of the gravel passage of
Rovantie.

The exhibion is kept open from the mid June until the end of August during the
weekdays.
