Kolari Municipality release 31.3

The Government of Finland, in cooperation with the President of the Republic, has declared that there is a state of emergency in the country as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. On 16 March 2020, the Government decided on additional measures to address the outbreak in Finland. The aim of the measures is to protect the population and to safeguard the functioning of society and the economy. The measures will be in force until 13 April 2020.

The government's recommendations and the state of emergency are being implemented in the Municipality of Kolari. Schools and agencies, as well as other public services will remain closed until 13 April. Municipal services can be contacted by phone or email. Contact information is listed (in Finnish) in the section ”yhteystiedot” at ww.kolari.fi.

  • The Municipality of Kolari is subsidising meals for school pupils receiving online instruction by providing payment vouchers for local shops. The benefit is 3 euros/per pupil/per weekday. Parents should inform of the need for vouchers to family case worker Jenni Niva, tel. 040 489 5056
  • The Healthcare Centre is instructing anyone arriving in the municipality from the region of Uusimaa (or from abroad) during the past two weeks who is showing influenza symptoms to contact the healthcare centre about possible testing for exposure to the coronavirus.   • Do you have education in the social or healthcare sector, or are currently studying in these fields? The Municipality of Kolari is seeking individuals for a labour reserve that can be called upon to train and/or work if needed. Apply by email to the manager of basic safety mari.metsavainio@kolari.fi. When writing, please state your name, your education, and your telephone number.
  • Municipal council meeting. A meeting of the Kolari municipal council will be held on Monday 6.4 at 4pm, in the elementary school auditorium. The audience will be limited to no more than 10 people, and the public is urged to follow the meeting online. A link to the livestream will be posted in the news section of the kolari.fi website.

Changes in spring rubbish collection
Good Friday's route 10.4.2020 Äkäslompolo/ Nilivaara, Kaupinjärvi and Röhkömukka will have pick-ups on Maundy Thursday 9.4.2020.
Easter Monday's route 13.4.2020 Äkäslompolo-Hannukainen will have pick-ups on Tuesday 14.4.2020.
May Day Friday's route 1.5.2020 Äkäslompolo / Nilivaara, Kaupinjärvi and Röhkömukka will have pick-ups on Monday 4.5.2020.

The municipality’s management group is actively monitoring the situation, especially the information services of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare THL, the Lapland Hospital District, and the national government.

The management group meets online daily and is keeping local residents up to date on issues that affect them. The latest updates are available online at ww.kolari.fi, on the Municipality of Kolari's Facebook and Instagram accounts, and in the edition of the newspaper Luoteis-Lappi being distributed to all homes in the municipality on 2.4.
